Slightly earlier, the Chicago Tribune ran an article on 19 August 1994 in their "Cyberspace" column, with several sections, the last of which had the heading "Cybercreep update", and warned people not to give out their personal information to people online.
Oops, earlier still the Chicago Tribune ran an article on 15 July 1994 in the same "Cyberspace" column, headed "Beware 'cybercreeps' lurking on Internet", which went on to explain: "These cybercreeps range from really bad apples like Vito [discussed earlier in the column--guy who sent rape threats to people online], who seem interested in actually hurting people whom they find online, to boorish adolescents who let go with an occasional burst of sophomoric obscenities called 'flaming'."
