jam (OED, v.1, 6., 1935 [Sept.])

1935 Melody News 1 Feb. 11/3 (RIPM Jazz Periodicals) The reverse side ("Pretend") exhibits Waller in a vocal mood jamming his way through razz ma tazz amid torrid accompaniment.

1935 Metronome June 19/4 (RIPM Jazz Periodicals) The Famous Door is the spot where the leading musikers and their confreres gather in the wee hours to drink, talk and listen, and jam. It's the band boys and their jamming that causes the "and others" in the heading up above.

1935 Tempo Aug. 6/4 (RIPM Jazz Periodicals) With no one around even to listen to us we stayed there and jammed until nine o'clock that morning !
