Dear Bob,
You are right. We are stuck.
Should we then contemplate a direct inter-Austronesian borrowing instead of
a filiation from a common ancestor?
I wonder whether apart from whale hunting, fleets of boats didn't
track/follow herds of whales to discover sea currents, schools of fish or
perhaps where these enormous, somehow fabulous, animals came from.
