etymology of Manila

Dear AN-LANGERS,

Can anyone tell me the source language of the name "Manila"? I don't think
its originally a Spanish name. I suspect it comes from one of the
Philippine languages, but which one?

I leave Hawaii this Saturday (1/18) for a conference in Santiago de Cuba,
where I will give a talk on the pronunciation of Spanish place names in
Hawaiian, so I would appreciate an answer (even just a brief one) before I
leave.
