Subject: Poetry Primer response

Arberry's Arabic Poetry: A Primer for Students is a very useful bilingual
anthology with 31 selected poems from the pre-Islamics to modern times
(al-Samau'al to al-Rusafi). Each poem is provided with notes for the
general reader. The introduction is very useful and there is a
bibliography. My copy was printed by the Cambridge University Press in
1965, although copies must have been available in the late seventies, when
I bought one for $6.95 at the UCLA bookstore. Try contacting Cambridge to
see whether it is still in print.
