Subject:Arabic Etymology Query

For some time I have been trying to do research into Arabic etymology. I
have all but given up on coming across anything substantial for Modern
Standard/Classical Arabic but I feel there must be more possibilities
with
the dialects and in investigating foreign influences such as Albanian
and
Greek on Egyptian and the various influences on Maghreb, Levantine,
Iraqi,
Peninsular Arabic etc.

I was told that important work had been done in this area in Soviet
times,
particularly in Tashkent but I drew a blank when trying to investigate
further. Can anyone direct me to any specific studies, please?

Richard Durkan
