Description:

The Department of Near Eastern Studies, College of Arts and Sciences,  
Cornell
University, invites applications for a full-time permanent position  
as Lecturer
or Senior Lecturer in Arabic language beginning the academic year  
2006-07. The
position will be renewable for 3 to 5 year terms dependent upon  
performance
review.  Minimum requirements are:

1. Master's degree or equivalent in Arabic language, literature,  
linguistics, or
language pedagogy
2. Native or near native fluency in Arabic: oral fluency in a spoken  
Arabic
dialect and written fluency in Modern Standard Arabic
3. Proficiency in spoken and written English
4. Recognition of colloquial Arabic as a legitimate linguistic form, and
willingness to teach colloquial Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic in  
the same course
5. Familiarity with and commitment to innovative methods of language  
teaching
6. Long-term professional commitment to language teaching
7. Willingness to work as a member of a small team of language  
instructors
