The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Department of Asian
Studies invites applications for a tenure-track
position in Arabic
Language and Culture at the rank of Assistant
Professor to begin July
2006. The Department seeks a dynamic scholar and
experienced teacher
who will actively contribute to the intellectual
mission of a research
institution and who will work closely with other
faculty members in
Arabic and Middle East Studies to build a cohesive and
rigorous
language
and culture program. Candidates will be considered
from a broad range
of
disciplines, including literature, media and cultural
studies,
anthropology, women's studies, folklore, history and
second language
acquisition. Candidates must demonstrate both
experience and interest
in communicative and proficiency-based language
teaching in a
university
setting at all levels. Ph.D. in hand or near
completion by the time
of
appointment and demonstrated potential for innovative
scholarship are
required. Native or near-native fluency in Arabic and
in at least one
dialect are also required.
