Job Description:
Carnegie Mellon University at Qatar has an opening for a postdoctoral
position (full-time
appointment) in Computational Linguistics. The ideal candidate will have a
Ph.D degree in a related discipline and a sound background in computational
linguistics with experience in Arabic text mining. Prior experience in web
design, development, and usability testing with eye-trackers will be a
plus. Good command of English and Arabic language is required.
The postdoc will: (a) help develop an Arabic language corpus; (b) assist
with analyzing the corpus (including the figurative and metaphorical use of
words in the corpus); (c) help design and develop Arabic language web pages
and conduct usability testing of these pages using eye tracking; (d)
support administrative tasks of the project; and (e) coauthor/assist with
related research publications and submission to journals/conferences. This
position is part of a two-year National Priorities Research Project of the
Qatar National Research Foundation. The job requirements call for
collaborative research work with the Department of English Literature &
Linguistics and the Department of Mass Communication at Qatar University.
The expected starting date for the position is August 1, 2013. The initial
period of appointment is for nine months, with the possibility of renewal
subject to follow-up funding. Applications should include a CV, an outline
