I think that the hyphen should be removed.
'akachan' is a noun which means 'baby'.
Originally 'akachan' came from 'aka-chan' where 'aka' means 'red'
color, and generally baby's face looks red (comparing with adults),
and '-chan' is attached with person's name and sometimes animal's
name such as 'kuma-chan (bear-chan)'.
But nowadays 'akachan' has become one word...
