i have a question about tagging words in a 3rd or 4th language:
when working with children who speak both Tagalog & English, we have
been using the folllowing header line:
@Languages: tgl, eng
and marking use of the second language in the main tiers by using the
@s postcode or [- eng] precode.
sometimes in these bilingual transcripts, one or more speakers will
use a third language. should we then add the third language to the
header line? For example, if the third language is Cebuano:
@Languages: tgl, eng, ceb
then tag with the precode [- ceb] or @s:ceb whenever a word or phrase
is used?
The additional languages used by the parents or caregivers in our
study are either Cebuano or Hilgaynon. These are not yet part of the
ISO-639.cut in the CHILDES\CLAN\lib\fixes folder. Based on
http://www.sil.org/iso639-3/codes.asp, the codes are ceb and hil.
Should i add these to my ISO-639.cut file? or to the depfile.cut? So
that when I use the +l switch to extract lexicon the cebuano and
hilgaynon words will be tagged?
Thank you!
