I am new to CLAN and I have questions about CLAN calculations for the 
following measures:
 
1.       Clause Length
2.       Finite Verb Ratio
3.       Sentence Types
4.       NP Length
5.       Use of tenses
 
1.       To calculate clause length, we need freq with extra %tier yielding 
the number of clauses.
 
(a) How do we get “freq with extra %tier yielding the number of clauses”? 
(b) What is the extra %tier yielding the number of clauses. 
(c) Is there a special formula we use to calculate the number of clauses? 
*(d) What is the formula to calculate clause length in CLAN?*
 
2.       Finite verb ratio (words per finite verb), we need freq with extra 
%tier yielding the number of finite verbs
 
(a) How do we get “freq with extra %tier yielding the number of finite 
verbs”? 
(b) What is the extra %tier yielding the number of finite verbs. 
(c) Is there a special formula we use to calculate the number of finite 
verbs?

3.       Sentence types (complex, compound,…), we need freq with extra 
%tier yielding the number of clause types
 
(a) How do we get “freq with extra %tier yielding the number of clause 
types”? 
(b) What is the extra %tier yielding the number of clause types? 
(c) Is there a special formula we use to calculate the number of clause 
types?
*(d) What is the formula to calculate frequency of different sentence types 
(complex, compound) in CLAN?*
 
4.       NP length, we need freq with extra %tier yielding the number of 
NPs and the number of words in all NPs
 
(a) How do we get “freq with extra %tier yielding the number of NPs and the 
number of words in all NPs”? 
(b) What is the extra %tier yielding the number of NPs and the number of 
words in all NPs?. 
(c) Is there a special formula we use to calculate the number of NPs and 
the number of words in all NPs?

5.       Use of tenses, we need an extra %tier so we can use freq
 
(a) What does it mean by “extra %tier”? 
(b) What is the “extra %tier” and how do we calculate it?
