Using %spe for written corpora

Hi,

If you mean start (*) as a literal and not wild card, then write it as \*. I assume you already know that %spe is not in the depfile either. You can call it %xspe, then it will be ignored.

Technically, utterance is defined as ending with utterance delimiter. I assume by full stop you mean something like period (.). There is no way to get around that rule. If you think that the full stop in the middle means that utterance will continue on the next utterance, then you might use Self-Interruption symbol. Look in CHAT manual at https://talkbank.org/manuals/CHAT.pdf for chapter 9.11 Special Utterance Terminators.

It occurs as an error since this notation is not specified in the depfile. It also seems that it does not work even if I try to add it to the depfile (possibly because the asterisk stands for any sequence or word). Additionally, children sometimes use a full stop in the middle of an utterance, which is also an error according to the CHAT guidelines. How can I account for these specificities of texts written by young children?
