Mahsie in the Yukon
Sun Aug 30 02:52:00 UTC 1998
I just happened to be watching "Nedaa" ("eye" in a Dene language spoken =
in
the Yukon last night; I think Dogrib) last night and perked up my ears =
when
the host signed off the show with "mahsie", or "massi" - obviously =
Jargon;
spoken with an emphasis on the first syllable, both vowels rather brief.
I've known for a while that Jargon words were used in the Yukon, but
thought this mostly had to do with the Gold Rush (although it was a =
Skookum
Jim who was one of the individuals who found gold on Rabbit - thereafter
Bonanza - Creek in the Klondike Basin).
Anyway, thought you all might find that interesting....
