Good day,
In Robert Walkinshaw's "On Puget Sound" (New York: Putnam, 1929), on page
9 he quotes "a fur trader named Duncan [who] charted the entrance" to the
Strait of Juan de Fuca "a few months after Meares' return, and brought
back information from the Indians around Cape Flattery that 'they knew not
of any land to the eastward; but that it was A'ass toopulse, which
signifies a great sea.' "
