Ethnonyms, if you will.

Klahowya,

A) Terry, viz. the entertaining origin of "Ethiopia" in ancient Greek
geographical knowledge: I recall it means "burnt skins" or "burnt land"
or whatnot.

B) Without comment, here is the list of words for folks of various
ethnicities in Father LeJeune's "Chinook Rudiments". It's attributed, in
its earliest form, to his superior, Bishop Durieu (?of Victoria, no?),
1879:

"Passayoox, Frenchman
kinjorj, Englishman
Boston man, American
Canada man, Canadian
Tlil telikom, niggers
Tekop telikom, white men
Telikom, indians
Chinaman, Chinaman
kanaka, kanak"

In LeJeune's own enumeration, we find

"Telikom,	Natives
h'loima-telikom,other indians
pel telikom,	red people
...
Boston, Americans
Lejooip,	Jews
...
Jap, Japs"

FWIW, when folks got to thinking much about these things, some of 'em
listed everything they'd ever heard said, I suppose.

Best from
Dave
