I've been chewing this over for a while and thought that perhaps I might
as well just do it. <G>
The following is a "chant" I wrote for a (SciFic) Fantasy novel I'm
trying to get published and I'm curious as to how others will decypher it
-- seeing as how I was working solely with The Thomas "Chinook: A History
and Dictionary" at the time I wrote it.
And, as far as I know, I made up the word "Keet".
The "chant" is spoken by a ship's captain named Yakosilth Tsiat'ko (he
has a daughter named <impish grin> Klatwaona).
What's Cap'n Silth going on about?
"O Keet, ekkoli tyee,
nika wawa mika kopa ahnkuttie tillicums yiem wawa, ahnkuttie laly.
Nesika kopa hyas ticky!
"O Keet, hyas tyee kopa ekkoli,
nika okustee pe nika skookum wawa mika kloshe
tum-tum mesachie tahmahnahwis kadeena nesika.
"O Keet, hyas ekkoli tyee,
nesika mamook halo klaska pe nika ikanim hyas kokshut
nika kwass nesika wake iskum illahee.
"O Keet, ekkoli tyee,
mika potlatch nesika okoke kopa mika okoke klatwa kopa chuck
kahkwa nesika skookum kopa klatwa illahee."
