In ref to the creole/caribe discussion, thought some of you might find the

Both concern the reconstruction of obscure cultures overrun by outside
influences, although I don't think in the case of the Melungeons that
language is an issue; it may be in terms of isolated words and usages, but
not in terms of an actual language, unlike Taino....
