Here's what the OED has to say on ORIGNAL:

Canadian Fr., alteration of Basque oregna stag, pl. oregnac
(Hatz.-Darm.).
Littré cites from Lescarbot Hist. de la Nouvelle France (1615) xx, that
the Basques landing on the American coasts gave to the American elk the
name orenac, and that orenac in Basque meant ‘stag’.
