Chinook Changer Song

   There are several references to Chinook Jargon songs in a newly published
book:  Spirit of the First People: Native American Music Traditions of
Washington State, edited by Willie Smyth and Esme Ryan, c. 1999, University
of Washington Press.  The appendices are wonderful. The book has an
accompanying compact disk.  Appendix 3 is about Melville Jacobs and his
early thnographic ecordings in the Northwest. Someone else on the listserv
appreciated information about Dr. Jacobs.  I first learned of his work in
the book She's Tricky Like Coyote, recently published, also.  I am heartsick
that I was going to school on the UW campus while he was still alive and
teaching, (he died in 1971).  I would have liked to been taught by him.
