Musical group ULALI in "Smoke Signals" soundtrack

At the annual Indian performance celebration "Coyote and Friends" in Spokane
last night, I noticed that on the 1998 TVT Records release of the soundtrack
to the movie "Smoke Signals", there is a group named ULALI which performs
two songs.  I don't know what kind of music this is, but maybe it was
inspired by Chuck Berry -- or Barry Manilow!  KhEltEsh hihi.
