Howdy again,

Dale L. Walker, "Pacific Destiny: The Three-Century Journey to the Oregon
Country", published by Tom Doherty Associates, LLC, New York, 2000. 478
pages, some maps.

A popular account veering near to Vidalian or Irvingian (Astorian)
historical fiction. Starts with Cabrillo in 1542, lingers on Nootka &
"Chinook Indians" (explanations of "peshak" and "potlatch"), then hunkers
down on the Overland route for 350 pages. Keeps on using the word "hetman"
for indigenous chiefs! Fun, romantic, not too seriously informative. Not
my cup of tea.

Cheers,
Dave
