A thought on this past thread popped into my head - I suppose Winthrop
could have mixed up the words "Klahowyam" and "Callapooya". They may
have sounded similar (k-la-ho-ya-m, ka-la-po-ya). It is also quite
possible that Winthrop had written something that looked like
"clahoyam", and that his editor made a faulty assumption. In handwriting
sometimes "h" looks like "p", and "m" looks like "n".
