Did Meany know Shaw?

Hello,
Did Edmond Meany the historian know George Shaw the CJ dictionary maker?
In a paper I've been working on, I conclude that Meany is the person who
originated the name "tolo", which became the word for Sadie Hawkins-type
dances in western Washington.
I further conclude that Meany got the term from Shaw's dictionary, and
that this all happened the same year that dictionary was published, and in
the same city.
This is why I'm curious to know if Shaw and Meany were in close
communication. If not, well, Meany was interested in Washington place
names, and might have bought Shaw's book as soon as it came out simply in
order to build his reference library.
Thanks for any information...
