Bonsoir,

Just a short word about 'marrron' in French.
In current French (in Canada as well) :
- marron is a colour (brown). I am not sure it covers
exactly the same colour as in English, but almost the
same. Reddish brown would be 'roux'.
- (un) marron is also chestnut, probably from the
colour
In older French :
- the use of marron (English maroon, from Spanish) for
evaded slaves and horses (thus wild) was apparently
common but it is not current any more, except in the
expression 'negres marrons', an ethnic group in French
Guiana (which now sounds funny to most of the French
speakers here who ignore the actual meaning of marron
and understand 'brown negroes'...).
