"tlost" dog...?!

>From Kamloops Wawa #201 (June 1902), page 140, comes this passage with a 
word I'm not sure of:

"Kopa Pintiktin, pus tilikom kuli prosishon, iht kamuks iaka klatwa sitkom 
kopa tilikom.  Iht man mamuk kik iaka pi iaka klatwa inatai, iawa iht man 
wiht kik iaka, pi iaka klatwa kopa iht man, pi ukuk man mash ston kopa 
iaka: pi aias lili kakwa drit tlost ukuk kamuks."

This has the hallmarks of one of Father Le Jeune's humorous stories, and 
I'm guessing "tlost" is either a misprint for, or a consciously 
funny "Indian" pronunciation of, for "lost" (a word he often uses in 
Chinuk Wawa).  The translation I suggest is:

"At Penticton, while the people were traveling in a religous procession, a 
dog went into the middle of the crowd.  One man kicked it and it went to 
the other side, then a man kicked it again, and it went to this one man, 
and that man threw a rock at it: then for quite a while this dog seemed 
really lost."
