Rev. Paul Gard & Charles Buchanan: Who were they?

The Haskell Institute was established in 1884 at Lawrence, Kansas as the United States Indian Industrial Training School, and remains in operation as Haskell Indian Nations University. It is the alma mater of Jim Thorpe.

I cannot find the connection between Buchanan and Haskell, though I ran across mention of correspondence between him and Estelle Reel, Superintendent of Indian Schools 1898-1910.

Father Paul Gard established St. Mary's Parish in 1901, where the Mission of St. Anne is located, in Marysville.

There's not much to be found about either man on-line. The morgue of Tacoma Public Library would likely be a good resource, if you know anyone there who could go look. There might be church records on Paul Gard, and correspondence or reports in LOC for Buchanan.

All I can find on Hiram P. Leimdon is reference to an "English-Chinook Glossary" of 1889, indexed at Marquette, which is probably the page you found. "Leimdon" must be a typo, neither a name nor a word as far as I can tell, or a nom de plume.
