More information about Father Gard, whose Jargon lexicon was mentioned
last week. John Reinecke's "Bibliography of pidgin and creole languages"
(1975) lists an item by him in the Smithsonian Insitution / National
Anthropological Archive: ms. no. 1778 'Chinook Jargon' from Pawhuska,
Oklahoma, June 1919. It's written in a notebook. This is 90 pages long.
It contains prayers, hymns, catechism, formula for confession, and phrases
in daily use.
That Buchanan person who was also mentioned is listed by Reinecke, by last
name only. Apparently E.H. Thomas' book (1935)--I wouldn't have thought
to look there--lists a manuscript by him, the whereabouts of which are not
now known.
