The Web assessment and media monitoring methodology presented in this
chapter provides empirical Web data by automatically mirroring and
processing large samples of Web information systems. For this research, 50
international media sites have been monitored in monthly intervals. The
wealth of information contained in these sites was converted into
aggregated representations through structural and textual analysis. This
process yielded detailed profiles for each site and roughly one billion
words of textual raw data. The resulting indicators and visualizations
describe complex relationships and developments in the Web coverage of
renewable energies that can hardly be captured and analyzed in traditional
ways.
