[Corpora-List] 500 most common words in English - definitive list?

I'm working on an English language acquisition tool using a specialized
(patterned) font to be used by native speakers of Chinese.
 
I'm beginning with the 500 most common words in English.  Does anybody out
there have a definitive or favourite list?  The online woods seem to be full
of them...
