Dear all,

I guess it's not really woodchucker stories Parween had in mind, but rather 
examples like :


If he would have had these kind of balls in October 2004, he would be 
president

(excuse my French, that's the 1st example a random search returned, and 
it's even more interesting with the counterfactual HAVE + PP on top of the 
if...would)

Parween, it's really things like (I'm just making this one up) : "If he 
would come, we would go to the movies" you're interested in, or am I wrong?

Here's another one :

If he would slip because of his injury...

I don't have enough context for this one, but clearly the volitional value 
of WILL/WOULD is excluded. It's true that kind of thing seems to be 
cropping up more & more, especially in American English. I've never done 
any research into the matter, but it does look like a trend, and I'd be 
interested in any quantitative data too!
