AKSIS (Department of Culture, Language and Information Technology) is a 
research and development Centre that is organised in three research 
groups: Language Technology, Text Technology and Intermedia (with among 
other interests, technology enhanced learning). Research and development 
at AKSIS is interdisciplinary and is often in collaboration with 
researchers at the University of Bergen. AKSIS also collaborates with 
other research and development groups both nationally and internationally, 
governmental and private. AKSIS has 30-40 researchers, programmers and 
consultants with a yearly budget of approximately 25 million kroner 
(approx. 3.5 million Euros).

AKSIS is a department in University Research Bergen (Unifob) a non-profit 
research organisation affiliated to the University of Bergen 
(http://www.unifob.no). While the major sources of funding have come from 
the Norwegian Research Council, the University of Bergen, Ministries and 
the EU), the department has ambitions to strengthen research collaboration 
with industry.

AKSIS invites applications for a vacant position as Research Director. The 
Research Director will lead both the research activities and 
administration, and have personnel responsibility for AKSIS employees. The 
Research Director will be a member of Unifob's leader group and reports to 
Unifob's Managing Director. We are looking for a Research Director who, 
together with his researchers, can further develop AKSIS as a Research 
Centre at a high international level. The Research Director needs to have 
a Ph.D, and it is an advantage to have been found qualified as a full 
professor. The position requires relevant leadership experience and a 
person who has strengths in strategic thinking, project development and 
has a successful grant record. It is also a requirement to have the 
ability to develop new ideas with regard to research themes and strategies 
in collaboration with other researchers at the Centre. The Research 
Director must be good at building collaboration - national and 
international - with different research groups, industry and the 
governmental sector.
