[Corpora-List] Job opening: text mining, National Centre for Text Mining, University of Manchester

[Sophia Ananiadou]

The National Centre for Text Mining, School of Computer Science, seeks to appoint a research associate in text mining for 15 months. You will work within a project funded by JISC on Chemistry using Text Annotation in cooperation with the University of Cambridge, the Royal Society of Chemistry and Thompson Reuters.

The aims of the project are to integrate a variety of text mining tools for chemistry developed by the National Centre for Text Mining and the University of Cambridge using the text mining workflow infrastructure U-Compare http://u-compare.org/ to produce an advanced information retrieval system for Chemistry and to develop an evaluation framework for text mining in chemistry.

Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science and a good first degree (minimum 2:1) in an area relevant to the job description. You should also have excellent software engineering skills and the ability to develop algorithms and software for NLP/TM systems; the ability to produce experiments for bio-text mining applications using large data sets; excellent knowledge of text mining preferably using machine learning techniques and in particular named entity recognition; excellent knowledge of C, C++, Java, XML, Linux and Web Services. A good publication record would be an advantage.
