Job description

Oxford University Press seeks a talented data engineer with a passion for language to work with editorial, marketing, and data teams to optimize Oxford dictionary data online and create cutting-edge functionality in digital products.

As Online Development Specialist you will have a broad interest in web and other digital strategies, as well as a proven record in data handling and language technologies. You will also have demonstrable research and analytical skills and a sound understanding of SEO strategies. A flexible and dynamic approach to problem solving, good communication skills, and an ability to interact effectively with suppliers, editors, and marketers are essential.

Specific tasks and responsibilities include:

*       Propose and draw up data specifications to meet digital publishing objectives
*       Produce accurate data according to specifications to serve online needs
*       Propose and implement SEO strategy for lexical products
*       Project-manage  data development work
*       Represent and liaise internally and externally with suppliers and customers
*       Research and use web analytics to ensure market knowledge informs all aspects of the above



Skills

Essential:              Good honours degree
                        Computational and data processing skills
Sound knowledge of XML, HTML, and one or more scripting languages (Python, Perl, JavaScript, etc.)
                        Project management skills


Desirable:              Editorial experience
                        Proven understanding of lexical data
                        Familiarity with XSL
                        Knowledge of linguistics and lexicography
                        Foreign languages
