2nd Call for Papers

INTEGRATION OF MULTILINGUAL RESOURCES AND TOOLS IN WEB APPLICATIONS

Workshop at GSCL 2011 – Conference of the German Society for Computational Linguistics and Language Technology

27 September 2011

Hamburg, Germany

http://www.corpora.uni-hamburg.de/gscl2011/en/?Workshops:Integration_of_multilingual_resources_and_tools_in_Web_applications

Modern Web applications are not only simple upload/download-repositories for documents but they are required to manage, intelligently retrieve, classify and summarize available information. Therefore there is an increased need of Web content management systems (WCMS) which implement techniques as text mining, information retrieval or automatic summarization.

Managing information on and for the Web means also that an additional dimension has to be considered: multilinguality.

A multilingual WCMS must not only be able to process content in different languages, but should provide mechanisms for cross-lingual retrieval and (semi-) automatic translation. It should be able to integrate and pipeline heterogeneous components for all involved languages and ensure robustness independent of particular domain of the documents.

These are challenging tasks, as usually language technology components are designed for a particular domain, have different input and output formats, require external resources and have varying execution times.

Recent European activities propose different solutions raising from implementation of Web services up to fully integrated language processing tools.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and users working on and with such types of systems and discuss approaches to:

– pros and cons of using Web services within content management systems

– monolingual language processing chains integrating heterogeneous components

– minimal linguistic framework for assembling multilingual linguistic processing chains

– reusability of language processing chains

– frameworks for building language processing chains (UIMA, GATE etc.)

– performance versus quality in WCMS systems

– domain adaptability of language processing chains

Its main goals aiming at facilitating the multilingual Web content development and management, in particular the authoring, versioning and maintenance of multilingual Web sites (http://www.atlasproject.eu)

SUBMISSION DETAILS

We are looking for submissions of original, unpublished work, related (but not restricted) to the above topics. Submissions should be in form of an extended abstract (2-4 pages, Times New Roman, 11pt).

Submission deadline: July 31st 2011

Notification of acceptance: August 20th 2011

Submission of revised abstract: September 7th 2011

Extended abstracts should be submitted as PDF via the GSCL conference system . There is a section “Workshop Language Chains” reserved for this workshop. Please submit your abstracts under this section, and please follow the submission guidelines of the GSCL main conference. Once accepted, authors will receive a style sheet and submission details for the full papers. Full papers (8 to 10 pages) will be due November 30th 2011 and will be published in a special volume.
