Summary

Linguamatics is a provider of innovative software products for semantic 
search and text mining. Thanks to a great team, and sophisticated 
natural language processing technology, our software is acknowledged 
globally as the leader in its field, with a strong focus  on the 
Pharmaceutical and Biotech industry. We are now looking for a talented 
Technical Support Engineer to assist our customers and provide internal 
IT support.

The role is varied and demanding, covering a wide range of technical 
support functions across the whole company, including:

•    First-line technical support for customers, including on-site 
assistance with installations
•    IT support for internal users, including help for application 
specialists in solving customer’s problems as well as dealing with 
hardware and software issues that arise
•    Deployment & maintenance of Linguamatics’ text mining servers and 
related software, both internally and on the Cloud
•    Installation, administration and monitoring of hardware and 
software infrastructure, e.g. network & security, as well as user-level 
services, such as web and mail
•    Performing upgrades and rolling out of new services
•    Documentation of procedures for end users via internal Wiki
•    Participation in on-call rota, to ensure continuous service to 
end-users

Requirements

You will be a fast learner with broad commercial experience of technical 
support and systems administration and will ideally have the following 
attributes:

•    Good communication skills, with a pro-active, problem-solving 
attitude and ability to work in a team
•    The desire to become an expert in all technical aspects of 
Linguamatics products
•    Expertise in programming or scripting in one or more of Perl, 
Python or shell
•    Familiarity with workflow applications, such as Pipeline Pilot, 
would be a definite plus
•    Experience of multiple platforms and operating systems –  Windows 
(Server, Vista, XP)  and Linux/Unix – as well as a variety of hardware 
and virtualisation
•    Familiarity with networking and security: firewalls, naming 
services, mail servers, webservers, and web-based services
•    Understanding of installation/management/backup of fileservers and 
databases
•    Degree or postgraduate qualification in a numerate discipline from 
an accredited college or university
