PhD position in Natural Language Processing (September 2012)

Specialized in Natural Language Processing (text analysis and sign 
language), the ILES (Information, Written and Signed Language) group at 
LIMSI (Computer Sciences Laboratory for Mechanics and Engineering 
Sciences), in Orsay on the Saclay Plateau 20km south of Paris, has an 
open PhD position (3 years with Ecole Doctorale of Computer Science of 
Paris-Sud University), financed by an applied research project of 
SYSTEMATIC (Paris Region Systems and ICT Cluster), in the domain of 
project cost estimation.

The position is available starting September 2012.

In the PROJESTIMATE project, the PhD candidate will study, 
theoretically as well as experimentally, the precise information 
extraction and automatic semantic analysis needed for extracting 
relevant information for cost estimation from specification corpora. 
Nowadays, cost estimation is done manually by human experts. 
PROJESTIMATE will build the first computer aided solution for project 
cost estimation in a high-level research environment. The information 
collected using the methods designed by the PhD candidate will be used 
in a real system that will be tested on specification corpora provided 
by the industrial partners of the project.

Salary : 1427 € net wage per month (or 1700 € if additional teaching, 
depending on qualification and needs).

Requirements : Masters in Computer Science, with specialty in Natural 
Language Processing  and/or Machine Learning and/or Artificial 
Intelligence. Working language can be English but a good knowledge of 
French is needed since most of the corpora will be in French.
