Corpus Linguistics - the shortcut to linguistic evidence

The main topics of this PhD course are collection of linguistic data (i.e. corpora), storage of these data, and relevant tools to be used in connection with making queries in the corpora. Consequently, the intended target group of the course is PhD-students that in their research are focused on exploiting large datasets and advanced software. This course shares contents and perspectives with the newly started Danish DIGHUMLAB initiative (cf. here<http://dighumlab.dk/>) that has as main goal the making of digitalized resources and tools for research and education.

This PhD course with knowledge resources as its focal point corresponds well with CLARIN and DARIAH - two international research infrastructure organizations that have knowledge sharing as a key element and to which the DIGHUMLAB initiative in various ways will contribute.

The course will be organized with a view to both describing already existing corpora and tools and covering methods for how to build new corpora in order to address particular research questions.

The course is split up in two parts, and it is possible to follow only the first two days of the course, for which a separate course certificate will be issued. It is a prerequisite that the participants have followed the first part of the course before continuing on Part II.
