Research Design and Statistics in Linguistics and Communication
Science is a new, peer-reviewed journal devoted to exploring how
quantitative methods and statistical techniques can supplement
qualitative analyses in linguistics and communication science;
research on the quantitative characteristics of language and text in a
more mathematical form. This approach opens up important and exciting
theoretical perspectives, as well as solutions for a wide range of
practical problems by introducing into linguistics and communication
science the methods and models of advanced scientific disciplines
prevalent within the natural sciences, economics, and psychology. It
aims at the dissemination and publication of original contributions
which bring developments and improvement in quantitative methodologies
to the attention of both linguists and communication scholars.
Research Design and Statistics in Linguistics and Communication
Science invites original, previously unpublished research articles and
book reviews in the field of empirical and quantitative approaches to
linguistics and communication science. Contributions should contain
empirical analyses of data from different languages and from different
theoretical perspectives and frameworks, providing new findings and
innovative approaches in any area of linguistics and communication
science. We encourage submissions concentrating on, but not limited to:
Empirical language research
Information retrieval
Text mining
Methods of measurement
Computer-assisted content analysis
Fieldwork in linguistics
Translation studies
Authorship attribution
Language testing
Information extraction
Questionnaire design
Interview methods
Forensic linguistics
Text classification
Corpus linguistics
Natural language processing
Textometry
The journal also invites proposals for special issues on specific
topics. Research Design and Statistics in Linguistics and
Communication Science is inherently interdisciplinary, and papers at
the boundaries of linguistics and communication science are especially
welcome, as approaches involving two or more academic disciplines are
more likely to produce new theoretical insights, improving our
knowledge about language, communication and any type of
cross-linguistic phenomena.
Research Design and Statistics in Linguistics and Communication
Science is an advance online publication (AOP); articles are posted
online immediately after being accepted, reviewed, copyedited and
proofs are reviewed. AOPs will appear ahead of the two annual print
publications in June and December, in which they will be included.
These online versions are definitive and may be cited using the
digital object identifier (DOI).
