A Post-doc position is available in the “Human Language Technology - HLT” Research Unit at Bruno Kessler Foundation, Center for Information Technology.

**** Workplace **** 

The “Human Language Technology“ Research Unit of FBK is a multi-disciplinary research unit that addresses the automatic processing of human language for a range of tasks. In particular, we focus on: Automatic speech recognition, i.e. the conversion of a speech signal into a readable text; Machine translation, i.e. the translation of speech or text from one language into another; Content processing, that includes information extraction integration and retrieval from texts. HLT draws on several disciplines, such as Computational Linguistics or Natural Language Processing, Speech Processing, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Pattern Recognition, etc. The HLT unit has been developing state-of-the-art technology in all the main research areas it operates in. The group has performed consistently well in several international scientific evaluations, and is currently engaged in international projects for open source software development. Moreover, people of the unit are key-players of many international initiatives around evaluation and benchmarking. The unit also provides technological support and high-level services in order to optimize the internal research activities, namely a shared and efficient computing environment, software tools, up to the creation and management of large-scale linguistic resources.

The HLT Research Unit is looking for candidates to carry out research activities in the field of Information Extraction from text. The research position will be funded through the European research project NewsReader (http://www.newsreader-project.eu).


**** Position ****

The candidate is expected to contribute original research results inside a leading edge international project. The aim is to advance the state-of-the-art in the field of event detection, event co-reference, and detection of relations among events (particularly temporal and causal relations).

**** Job requirements **** 

	• Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related fields
	• Deep knowledge in Natural Language Processing, and specifically statistical methods for Information Extraction from text.
	• Programming experience in one or more of the following: Java, Python, Perl, C++ in the Unix environment
	• Ability to work and deliver in funded research projects, possibly EU projects
	• Oral and written proficiency in English
	• Good communication skills
	• Strong team attitude
	• Post-doc experience in the NLP area will be considered a plus

Type of contract: Research position
Duration: 30-months (in any case until December 2015)
Work time: full time
Number of positions: 1
Gross salary: from 37.500 to 41.500 € per year (depending on the candidate experience)
