Dear Mario,

I guess the answer to your question depends on the degree of granularity you wish to have in such a database and the intended final usage thereof. I would say your choice for a standard or best practice would be among these three:

- TermBase eXchange (TBX): Used particularly in the translation and localization industry and fostered by some European Projects and Initiatives (http://www.ttt.org/oscarStandards/tbx/tbx_oscar.pdf). It is equivalent to the ISO 30042 and most Terminological Tools included in Computer Assisted Tool packages support this format.
- Lexical Markup Framework (LMF): the ISO standard for Natural Language Processing and Machine Readable Dictionaries (http://www.lexicalmarkupframework.org/)
- Text Encoding Initiative (TEI): Although it is mainly used for corpora, it includes a dictionary module (http://www.tei-c.org/index.xml)

Good luck!

I wonder if there is an international standard for the codification of terminology in order to facilitate the exchange of information (exportation and importation of terms from and into the database).
