*Workshop on Data Mining in Biomedical informatics and Healthcare*
-- In conjunction with the 18th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge
Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD 2014)
*When: * *May 13, 2014*
*Where: Tainan, Taiwan*

Mining biological, biomedical, and health data is an emerging research area
at the intersection between biology and data mining. As genomic sequencing
generation, electronic medical record utilization, and other large-scale
data has increased exponentially in recent years, the biomedical
informatics fields are undergoing an important stage with new breakthroughs
on dealing with dramatically increased information in terms of size and
complexity. Research that bridges the latest multimodal measurement
technologies with large amounts of electronic healthcare data is increasing.
The workshop aims to provide a forum for data miners, informaticians and
clinical researchers to share novel findings on their latest investigations
in applying data mining techniques to biomedical and healthcare data. The
broader context of the workshop comprehends artificial intelligence,
information retrieval, machine learning, and natural language processing.
Submissions are invited to address the need for developing novel methods to
mine, summarize and integrate the huge volume and diverse modalities of the
structured and unstructured biomedical and healthcare data that can
potentially lead to significant advances in the field. This workshop will
aim to provide research methodologies and tools on managing, analyzing,
visualizing, and extracting information from large, diverse, complex,
longitudinal, and/or distributed biological and biomedical data sets.
