We would like to invite you to our Corpus Stylistics Workshop on Wednesday
30 April at the University of Nottingham (with apologies for

The Corpus Stylistics Workshop

Workshop convenors: Michaela Mahlberg, Peter Stockwell and Rein Sikveland

This workshop aims to contribute to the growing area of research
that employs corpus linguistic methods in the study of literary texts. The
Papers in the workshop address research questions in Corpus Stylistics from
a
variety of angles: with a focus on literary effects, differences between
genres, literary translation, cognitive approaches and the reading
experience. The workshop will also present corpus software that is
specifically
designed to support the analysis of literary texts.

3.15-3.45   Anna Cermakova: Keyword and cluster analysis in Virginia
Woolf's Mrs Dalloway and literary interpretation of the novel
3.45-4.15   Dan McIntyre & Brian Walker: The corpus stylistic analysis
of prose fiction
4.15-4.45   Kathy Conklin: Psycholinguistic methods to study the reading
of Dickens's characters
4.45-5.15   Michaela Mahlberg, Peter Stockwell, Rein Sikveland: CLiC
Dickens - Towards a cognitive corpus stylistics of characterisation
5.15  Discussion and round-up

Participants of the workshop will also have the opportunity to attend a
talk by Ronald Carter to officially open the annual ICAME conference.

18.00  Ronald Carter: Corpus, context, culture: histories and futures

The talk will be followed by a reception.

The Corpus Stylistics Workshop is a pre-conference workshop of ICAME 35,
but is also open to day delegates as part of our Corpus Linguistics
Workshop Series.
