I am Cynthia Roy, PhD in Sociolinguistics from Georgetown; currently at
the University of New Orleans in the English Department where I teach
linguistics courses and writing courses. I am also the Director of the
Greater New Orleans Writing Project of the National Writing Project, a
national, educational reform movement to improve student writing and the
teaching of writing in the nation's schools.

My focus in my dissertation was looking at an interpreter's role in the
discourse exchange between two people who do not speak the same
language. My specialization in sociolinguistics is discourse analysis
and I am fortunate to have had Deborah Tannen as a mentor. I am
interested in interpreting between languages and have, in press, a book
called Interpreting as a Discourse Process. I also write about teaching
interpreting as a discourse process.
