SLRF 2005 Call for Proposals




The Second Language Research Forum (SLRF) invites proposals for papers and
posters regarding theory and research in second language acquisition for its
annual conference, to be held at Teachers College, Columbia University from
October 7-9, 2005. We solicit colloquia, individual papers, and poster
presentations relevant to the conference theme: "SLA models and second language
instruction: Broadening the scope of inquiry." We welcome submissions from a
variety of perspectives which investigate SLA as it relates to various aspects
of second language instruction ranging from classroom practices to syllabus
design, material development, curriculum development, policy making, and assessment.




Submitters should specify one of the general research strands below under which
they wish their proposal to be evaluated.



General submission strands:



·                     Biological processes and effects

·                     Cognitive processes and effects

·                     Neurological processes and effects

·                     Developmental sequences

·                     Environmental influences

·                     Socio-cultural influences

·                     Linguistic analyses

·                     Pragmatic analyses

·                     Individual differences

·                     Research methodology

·                     Use of learner-corpora

·                     Evaluation, assessment, and testing



Proposals will be accepted for the following formats:



·                     Paper Presentations: 30 minutes long with a 10-minute
discussion period. Submissions should include an abstract of no more than 400
words and a program summary of no more than 50 words.

·                     Poster Presentations: to be displayed for a 2-hour block
of time. Posters should meet basic size and design specifications to be supplied
by the SLRF conference organizers.
