The Media and Writers – their Role in the Decline of Standard Arabic

SANA’A - Arabic is one of the richest, if not the richest, language of
mankind. Many Arabic linguists argue that Arabic has the capacity to “absorb
new terms and expressions from all languages” and “make it part and parcel of
its own”. It’s the language of the Holy Qur’an and the language of Heaven.

Unfortunately however, the quality of Standard Arabic, or Fossha, has declined
across the Arabic speaking world. Some go so far as to say it is collapsing,
warning of the many factors that threaten it.
Ironically, the most important threat to the language is the media and
writers, those who use the language as their daily tool.

Other factors include the role of schools, education and the demands of
companies, who require fluency in English - sadly sometimes at the expense of
correct Arabic. The key question is here: how can we save Arabic from decline
before it’s too late?
