Job Description
Brief outline:
The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) and
teaching and
research strengths in language pedagogy covering one or more of the
following areas:
curriculum studies, English for specific purposes, classroom-based
research, vocabulary
studies, learner variation and CALL (Computer Assisted Language
Learning). The ability to
teach across a broad range will be an advantage, including, in areas
beyond the candidates'
primary research specialisation. The postholder will be required to
provide teaching in
connection with the MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL (Teacher of
English to Speakers of
Other Languages). This programme has been identified by the University
as an area of
significant potential growth. You will also be expected to contribute,
as appropriate, to
undergraduate teaching in the English Language and Linguistics BA, while
developing the
current Applied Linguistics portfolio, with the expectation that in due
course teaching will be
developed explicitly related to your own research.

Applications are sought for a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics as part of
the expansion of this
successful area. The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent
experience) and
teaching and research strengths in Discourse Analysis, with an ability
to cover one or more of
the following areas: pragmatics, English for specific purposes, classroom
interaction/discourse, discourse in the professions, corpus linguistics,
or discourse analysis
for language teaching. You will also be expected to contribute, as
appropriate, to
undergraduate teaching in the English Language and Literature BA, while
developing the
current Applied Linguistics portfolio, with the expectation that in due
course teaching will be
developed explicitly related to your own research. The ability to teach
across a broad range
will be an advantage, including, if necessary, in areas beyond your
primary research
specialisation. You will be required to provide teaching in connection
with the MA in Applied
Linguistics with TESOL (Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Salary: £36,715 - £43,840 per annum pro rata, with the expectation of
annual
incremental progression. Potential to progress to £49,342 through
sustained exceptional
contribution
