Warmer, Warmer, Hot! Chimpanzees Can Use Gestures to Communicate Location of Food



Remember the game “warmer/colder,” in which one person leads another to the location of a hidden toy by telling them how “warm” they are as they get close? It turns out chimpanzees can play that game, too.



A new study shows chimpanzees are able to use hand gestures to coordinate actions to accomplish a specific goal, such as finding hidden food.



Researchers from Georgia State University, the University of Chester, and the University of Stirling examined how two chimpanzees communicated the location of hidden food to a human experimenter.
