Theme:
Late modern societies are characterized by constant, fast and unpredictable mobility of people, goods, ideas and values. This mobility and the ensuing unstable and unpredictable conditions of language use also transform the way we acquire and learn language and literacy, the role these play in our lives, and the way we relate to language and literacy as human beings. As a consequence of these changing conditions, there exists an explicit need to engage with the concepts, categorizations and boundaries that pertain to language, literacy and learning.

With these premises as points of departure, the aim of the proposed edited volume is to unpack the familiar concepts of language, literacy and learning and to promote dialogue and build bridges within and across these concepts. The volume's specific interest lies in bridging the gap between two distinct areas of scholarship i.e. the domains of Literacy Studies (or New Literacy Studies), on the one hand, and SLA and scholarship in learning in multilingual contexts, on the other.
In line with the above description, we elicit chapter proposals that center-stage empirical analysis. The authors are invited to clearly state as to how their proposed chapter will contribute to the gap in the scholarship between the domains of Literacy Studies (or New Literacy Studies) and SLA and scholarship in learning in multilingual sites.

Publishing plan:
We aim to submit our book proposal to an international publishing house (that has shown an explicit interest in our proposal) in March 2017. Subject to a final approval of the book proposal, and after a round of peer-reviewing and revisions of the short-listed chapter drafts during the second half of 2017, we aim to submit the volume by the end of November 2017.
The edited volume will consist of 10-12 chapters (ca. 8000 words), each addressing the concepts of language, literacy, and/or learning and the relations between (some of) these through empirical studies.

A chapter proposal should be approximately 600-800 words (excluding the key references) in length. The proposal should report original empirical research and it should include:
- Proposed title
- Aims of the study
- The theoretical framework adhered to
- Description of data and the methods of data collection
- Description of the analysis of data
- Tentative outcomes and implications
- How the chapter bridges the areas of language, literacy, and learning and addresses the relations between them
- Key references

- Author(s) information: full name(s) and contact details (e-mail address and telephone numbers).
