Research Assistant, Language Assessment
CAL Classification: Research Assistant I
Program Area: World Languages and Venture Assessments
Division: Language Assessment Division
Hours Per Week: 35 hrs/wk (full-time)
Position Available: Immediately
OVERVIEW
The Research Assistant provides research and development support for project-specific tasks and activities, and is responsible for carrying out language assessment project activities as assigned, contributing to the completion of project tasks and deliverables.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assist with development of item writing and review procedures and processes.
* Coordinate recruiting and hiring of consultants and track their performance.
* Contribute to development and review of language assessment items.
* Assist with test scoring and the compilation of scorer training materials.
* Create meeting agendas and take and disseminate meeting notes.
* Write and edit proposals, research reports, articles, conference presentations, and other project-related products.
* Deliver professional development workshops and conference presentations.
* Communicate with partners and external colleagues.
* Responsible for cleaning data, creating data tables, coding open-ended survey responses, updating the text of reports following a pre-existing format, and proofreading reports.
* Conduct library and Internet searches and other research activities.
* Coordinate project tasks and timelines.
* Assist with other administrative duties as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and four years of related work experience; or
* Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.
* Experience working with test development and item writing and/or English language teaching.
* Experience or formal coursework in language assessment, research methods, quantitative analysis, second/foreign language acquisition/learning/teaching.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Excellent interpersonal, editing, oral and written communication skills in English.
* Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment.
* Proficiency in a language other than English.
* Proficient in the use of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
* Acute attention to detail and strong work ethic.
